This is the 7th book that I’ve read from this author, and I have to say I will never get tired of her writing. Bosque never fails to pull me into each book, making me fall head over heels for the characters every single time.
This story is a roller-coaster of emotions and I am here for it! This story follows Isabel and Rhys – the Marquess of Vane – as they quite literally fall together and are forced to marry to avoid certain scandal.
Isabel has been a mother figure in her family’s life since the tragedy they suffered years ago which meant she gave up on her dreams of starting her own family and finding a love of her own. As a spinster she has zero prospects or expectation of marriage or family expect her own. But her life changed irrevocably the moment she fell into the grumpy reclusive Marquess of Vane. The marquess was looking for a wife though he never expected it to be Isabel - the women he loved as a young boy that he harboured mixed feelings about. Their chaotic fall forced the two together but by no means was it easy. Isabel and Rhys are both very stubborn and Isabel refuses to be cowed and Rhys refuses to trust her.
Rhys carries the traumas of his past with him and sees Isabel as another reiteration of the scandalous, unfaithful, and untrustworthy first wife. Luckily Isabel is good at perseverance and is determined to win him, his daughter, the tenants, the servants, and anyone else who doubts her over.
Rhys is quite horrible to Isabel and I have to admit I admire Isabel’s restraint in not slapping him repeatedly! Rhys did make it up to her eventually and I enjoyed watching him slowly warm up to her and realise how wonderful she is. He was overprotective of his daughter Millie and his love for her was so beautiful. Millie was a character that grew on me the more she accepted Isabel - I loved seeing their relationship develop, it was such a beautiful storyline.
Overall, I absolutely adored Isabel and Rhys’s story, the angst, forced marriage enemies to lovers vibes were perfection. I really felt for Isabel but loved seeing her push through and keep coming back stronger. The romance was sweet and heartfelt and made all the more beautiful as Rhys’s daughter played such an important part of it. I hope we get to see Millie take on the world in a future book!
