This book is the culmination of everything Pip has done and learnt and struggled through. Her hero corruption arc continues as this book takes a darker dive. Pip struggles with her trauma from the ending of book 2 and isn’t coping well at all. Her mind is fraught with pain and trauma and she doubts herself but thankfully she has Ravi as her cornerstone.
Her trust in justice and the law is broken after they fail her time and time again. And this story gives her a dangerous test that she believes will solve her issues if she solves it but what if it gets her first?
Having reread the first two books this darker turn made a lot more sense, her previous trials and lessons leading her clearly to the point where she is on the edge of breaking and can no longer trust herself. I loved this story, the build up was tense and fraught and brought everything full circle, Andie’s story led us her and after everything she experienced with Stanley and Charlie she knows more about the middle grey area than she ever wanted to.
I don’t want to give specifics but the main event is unexpected and horrifying and filled me with fear for Pip and ended unexpectedly. The aftermath was epic honestly. The stress of reading it was intense and it blew me away with how it all came together. Again it all came full circle, the characters involved throughout the series and the villains we have, the why of it all and how Pip got to that point, it was so excellently done and rereading it allowed me to pick up on all the clues that it would end up where it did. A very memorable and epic series, I absolutely love how it all came together and how even book 1 set up everything in this one.
