Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare - Book Review

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After Chain of Gold I was really excited to continue but I struggled a little for the first half. I found part 1 to be quite slow, it was missing the sparkle of the first book. I know that the events of part 1 had to happen to get to part 2 but it just didn’t hold me interest. However I loved part 2!! All the things I’d been waiting for came to a conclusion and I loved the reveals that happened. Especially in regards to the James/ Grace situation - I couldn’t have guessed it would end as it did but I really liked the twist and how everyone reacted. Very excited to see how this will play out in Chain of Thorns and though i know James is a victim also, I want him to have to grovel a little because I feel so bad for Cordelia.

I found the Lucie and Jesse situation a little dull honestly, I’m here for their romance but I just don’t feel like they got any further than where they were at in chain of gold and I really didn’t like that Lucie was keeping secrets from Cordelia. Their friendship felt so strained in this book and they could have easily shared their problems with one another instead.

Also the main plot wasn’t as interesting to me as the first book, I liked how it ended but it didn’t grip me the same way as Chain of Gold. The twist was good though I had suspected trouble with the oath - it will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the last book.

Also why are all these character so determined to be miserable?! Come on Anna, love is waiting for you! And Alastair was so close! I’m fully expecting everyone to be happy by the end of this series.

A bit about me… I love all things morally grey and magical!

My favourite series is Red Rising and I’m sucker for found family.

I drink way too much tea and live out my fantasy dreams by visiting medieval festivals and doing archery!

If I’m not reading you’ll find me writing my book or dreaming of far away places.
