Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle - Book Review

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This was a little slow and fanciful for my tastes. I liked the magic system of the tides and alignments and moon phrases. It was well formed and had rules it abided by. But it got a little fanciful and started following fairytale magic style, pulling stars from the sky and the liminal places of maybe gods and mysterious stories.

The setting was great and the mystery interesting enough. My favourite character was Kai so I wish we’d gotten more of him. I liked Baz’s growth but him and Emory were frustrating for the first half of the book, I wanted to shake some sense into them. Emory did evolve a lot but the twists were pretty obvious and I spent the book waiting for them to happen.

It was good but I wanted a little more grit and solidity to the magical story so maybe the book just wasn’t for me.

A bit about me… I love all things morally grey and magical!

My favourite series is Red Rising and I’m sucker for found family.

I drink way too much tea and live out my fantasy dreams by visiting medieval festivals and doing archery!

If I’m not reading you’ll find me writing my book or dreaming of far away places.
