I’m so happy to have Helen’s story. I was always intrigued by her and so wanted her to get a happy ending after her first husband betrayed her. As always, this is a standalone but has cameos from characters in other books. I think this one is better enjoyed with some knowledge of the series and the other characters but it’s not necessary.
Helen is now widowed after her Husband Grayson died. He cheated on her constantly and even fathered a child to another women. Helen loved Grayson but he deeply affected her perception of herself and how she viewed love. In this we get to see her relearn herself and learn what passion is. I loved seeing her journey and really empathised with her as she struggled with the desire to truly live despite her illness.
I really liked how Sadie depicted Helen’s chronic illness. (As someone who’s suffers chronic pain I really appreciated the way it was done and related a lot!) and more importantly how supportive Ian was without her needing to ask. He never made her feel less than or like a burden and paid attention to her to see what she needed. They were so sweet together but also full of passion. Helen’s desire to live her life well and to experience passion brought them together. Ian was a perfect match for Helen and she finally got the adventure she wanted.
Ian’s history was compelling, his loneliness and outcast childhood made him a perfect spy. But having read Jarvis’s book I hated that Ian thought he was the evil one but I saw where he was coming from. It was interesting to see a hero who was on the opposite side of the shadows for a change!
Another great addition to this series and I have to say I cannot wait for Victoria and William’s story - which is up next!
