The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons - Book Review

I put this book off for a while because my mood just wasn’t matching up but when I picked it up this time I was invested almost instantly!

I loved the concept of the story being told in two timelines by two characters in the present. I was equally interested in both timelines for most of the book which was amazing. Also the footnotes were great and also intriguing. The plot itself was a great epic fantasy; lots of twists, a lot of set up and slow reveals which I loved. Lots of threads connecting all the characters - I had a hard time following the family relations at the end but the writing reminded me regularly so that was appreciated.

I was invested in Kihrin and his journey and all the side characters; some I hated deeply haha. I liked the magic and the concept of gaesha and the demons and the world building was excellent.

It was just a great start to an epic fantasy series and I can’t wait to continue!

A bit about me… I love all things morally grey and magical!

My favourite series is Red Rising and I’m sucker for found family.

I drink way too much tea and live out my fantasy dreams by visiting medieval festivals and doing archery!

If I’m not reading you’ll find me writing my book or dreaming of far away places.
