I absolutely adored this story! I stayed up way too late reading it. Pippa aka Lady Philippa Darlington and Xander Macauley have a whirlwind story that makes me smile thinking about it now.
Macauley the so called Limehouse prince is a man of many talents, he runs more businesses that I could remember, and he puts out a front to the world that hides his kindness beneath it all. After his friends both fell prey to falling in love (books 1 and 2) Macauley is determined to avoid it at any costs. When he finds out Pippa is just as attracted to him as he is her, he does everything he can to avoid her and fight his attraction for not only does he not want to succumb, but she is also the younger sister of one of his best friends.
For her part Pippa knows what she’s wants and is determined to get it. Pippa can’t help her attraction to Macauley but believes she is nothing but an annoyance to him, she knows he is completely wrong for her and yet he is the only man that makes her heart beat faster. He seems to be the only man that understands her, and he has everything in life she wants.
Pippa avoids marriage by pretending to be a wallflower, a rather successful idea. She does not wish to be a woman who is the sister of a Duke, she wants her life to have meaning.
Pippa and Macauley’s journey is not easy or simple but it was so perfect for these two characters. I loved the unquenchable desire they had for one another, I absolutely loved that Pippa went for what she wanted and kept pushing Macauley for deals and agreements, she was strong and stubborn and brave, I couldn’t help but love her and the way she moved through life.
They were well matched in stubbornness as well as in their kind hearts. Both were bold and adventurous, and I enjoyed seeing them push one another. I loved getting a deeper look into Macauley’s life and enjoyed the tension and increasing steam as they learnt they couldn’t resist being with one another. An excellent story of which I loved every minute. It has characters to adore, romance and steam as well as a wonderful cast of side characters (both those from previous books and new) and it set up some new characters well for them to have their own centre stage romances.
