Song of the Six Realms by Judy I Lin - Book Review

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I believe I was left traumatised by the first Chinese fantasy inspired book I’ve read (a very popular book at that) that now I’m always quite scared whenever I pick up another Chinese fantasy inspired book. However, the only regret I have about the Song of the Six Realms was not picking it up sooner!

This book was quite amazing! In true fantasy fashion, we follow Xue as she gets caught up with immortal beings for her talent with the qin and we see her conquering various quests. Duke Meng and Xue are adorable, I love how they slowing fall in love with each other and how delicate he is with her. There is a complex and incredibly interesting realms division of the world (including celestials, immortal beings, mortals, demons, etc) and there’s also this court intrigue - that I LOVE in fantasy books. We have found family, powerful FMC and chosen one.

I really enjoyed the writing style, it was beautiful but still practical in a way you wouldn’t go around in circles trying to decipher what that phrase actually meant.

This is definitely a tale of perseverance, love and music - please cue ‘ten miles of peach blossoms’ intro.

Whisporia Rep

I am an avid reader, always looking for my next superb read and a fantasy lover! I adore far too many books and if I were to pick my latest gem of a book, it would be ‘The Poisons We Drink’ by Bethany Baptist!

Others from my repertoire of forever in my heart also include, ‘The Whispering Dark’ by Kelly Andrew, ‘The Nature of Witches’ by Rachel Griffin and the classics of ‘The Shadowhunter Chronicles’ by Cassie Clare!

When not surrounded by book, I like to look at flowers, visit new places and be with my partner! I am also obsessed with the colour pink!
